Political Passion

Many of you know me and where I stand politically. I like to refer to myself as a social Democrat with conservative financial leanings. However, with the general election season in full gear, I'm beginning to change my tone. I'm more impassioned with this particular election than I've ever been in any election. Needless to say, on the heels of Senator McCain's VP nomination announcement, I'm not hesitating on where I stand...I don't lean any which way -I'm a Democrat and I'm proud!

On Friday morning, after Senator Barack Obama's historic acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention, Senator John McCain announced Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential nominee. My first reaction? "Wow. He really didn't just do that did he?" Indeed he did. Senator McCain has chosen to attack Senator Obama on his lack of experience and has stated time and again that Obama is not ready to lead. McCain has just recently turned 72 and is in poor health -the VP choice in his case is not only important but vital! Governor Palin may just very well be our next President. Her creditials only list the following:
  • Alaska Governor -first term (a little over a year and a half)
  • Mayor of Wasilla, small town outside of Achorage
Where is her credential in public service other than the couple of years she's served as mayor/Governor? Where is her credential in foreign policy? What about her experience in Washington?

Not only does this selection make me nervous, but it makes me scared. I'm afraid McCain's choice isn't just poor judgement -it's negligence. HER inexperience makes her the worst VP selection out there -conservative OR liberal!

I'm going to make it my goal to help elect Obama into office this November. I will be contributing my time and efforts to my nearest Democratic Headquarters and I hope you do the same. I don't believe McCain nor Palin will be able to bring this country back to where it needs to be. We are falling short in so many different areas and I'm ready for some real change. I can't possibly fathom another 4 years of the same. Obama has always had my support, but he will have my undying support in the next couple of months leading up to his inaugguration. I will continue to post my thoughts and opinions as well as my experiences volunteering for this cause I truly believe in...and I hope you will follow me in this journey!

I think our political journies have been very similar this election season. I am finding that political partisanship is tiring.

Thanks Nate. I'm excited to get Nov 4th over with...It's exhausting because I feel so entrenched in all of it. It's also very exciting to see so many people active in the process
